This is a Freedom Porn update, for more information see Stop SOPA action

SOPA, which is likely to fail now thanks to the wonderful opposition from all sorts of people and organisations, is an act proposed in the US congress which claimed to aim to stop online "piracy" through measures like extrajudicial shut down of entire sites which can't afford to counter sue anybody who claims that they had a link to some place which has copyrighted material. But to this day many oranisations are willing to send a clear message to politicians that they shouldn't even think of bringing such laws up in the future.

English wikipedia and reddit are going to have a blackout, for now it looks like wikimedia commons is likely to have some sort of a banner displaying its opposition to this act.

If you operate any resource on the internet (be it a blog, a podcast, or another site), please consider stating your support for freedom of speech on there tomorrow. The internet community has been pushed into the defensive position for way too long, it is time to bring the fight to those who demand more censorship. It is they, not us, who must defend their horrific actions; it is they, not us, whose words should be considered as an act of anti-social behaviour and hateful; and it is their, not our, laws and rules which are ruining the attempt at creating a stable and egalitarian future for all.
