IWF attempted to censor Wikipedia

Internet Watch Foundation, a pro-censorship vigilante internet group, has attempted to censor the Wikipedia article about Virgin Killer (the album by Scorpions) on 2008 December 7th. IWF has claimed that the album cover, showing a nude prepubescent girl, is in fact an image of child pornography which would violate the British Protection of Children Act 1978.

IWF cannot censor internet pages itself, however, it does publish a blacklist which then is picked up by many of the British internet service providers (ISPs), which in tern limit access to specific pages or whole domains by their users. Wikipedia page was banned differently depending on the ISP for that reason. Some ISPs have chosen to explain why the page was banned, others simply redirected it to 404-error. The removal from the blacklist also did not take place all at the same time, as each ISP had to undo the blocks they put in place.
