This Is Our Job

This Is Our Job (subtitled This is our job so just recognise our rights and get over it) is an article by Douglas Fox, a sex-worker activist. In it the author makes an argument for sex-worker rights to be recognised as a part of human rights. Douglas Fox highlighs the danger of passing "bad laws", the intent of which is to send the "moral message" (such as perversion of sex) and of protectionism which claims to fight for the "victims" when in reality it denies the rights to everybody who disagrees.

Unfortunately the author was too lenient on the current structure, and did not want to draw links with any movements which could potentially force one to reconsider one's beliefs. Even the title of the article sounds much like "right to work" arguments, which are in many ways act as an antithesis to "right to be lazy", a much more radical concept.

This is not to say that writing of this article was a poor choice, rather, when reading, it would be good to remember that the author structured the arguments for an average individual.

The most radical idea is voice in the last paragraph. The author, very strongly, states that the statistics and debates of both sides are irrelevant; what is, however, very relevant is recognition of sex workers as human beings, who thus deserve full range of human rights.
